Cedar Bluff, VA- The Southwest Virginia Community College volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, earning back-to-back sweeps over Wake Technical Community College and Carolina University JV in a home tri-match at the Physical Education Building in Tazewell. The Flying Eagles showcased efficiency, depth, and momentum on both sides of the net, as the season hits the home stretch.
Match 1: SWCC 3, Wake Technical CC 0 (25–3, 26–24, 25–11)
Southwest Virginia opened the day with a dominant sweep over Wake Tech, setting the tone with a blistering first set and holding off a late surge in the second.
The Flying Eagles hit .284 as a team, tallying 38 kills to just 11 errors.
- Landri Lallande was nearly unstoppable at the net, finishing with 8 kills on .667 hitting and adding 2 block assists for 9 points.
- Destanie Ambers continued her strong form with 8 kills, 11 digs, and a solo block.
- Patricia Bigge added 7 kills and 3 total blocks, while Natalie Haynes chipped in 7 kills at a .286 clip.
- Lucy Reid orchestrated the attack with 33 assists and 3 service aces, while Evie Buffington added another 3 aces and 12 digs.
- As a team, SWCC recorded 8 service aces and 6 total blocks, showcasing balance on both sides of the ball.
Match 2: SWCC 3, Carolina University JV 0 (25–11, 25–9, 25–17)
In the afternoon match, the Flying Eagles carried their momentum into another clean sweep — this time dominating Carolina JV in all statistical categories.
SWCC hit an impressive .368 as a team, totaling 48 kills and 50 digs across the three sets.
- Destanie Ambers led the offense with 16 kills on .519 hitting, adding 2 aces and 6 digs for a match-high 18.5 points.
- Patricia Bigge followed with a stellar 13 kills (.550) and 3 block assists.
- Natalie Haynes contributed 8 kills (.438) and Landri Lallande added 6 more to round out a well-balanced attack.
- Lucy Reid again fueled the offense with 39 assists, while Evie Buffington anchored the back row with 20 digs and a service ace.
- Brooklyn Langston provided a spark with 3 aces and 6 total points, helping SWCC close out the sweep convincingly.
The Flying Eagles will return to action Tuesday, October, 21 when they travel Alice Lloyd College. First Serve is set for 6:00 PM.
