Flying Eagles Battle Hard but Drop Two Matches at Walters State Tri-Match

Morristown, Tenn. – The Southwest Virginia Community College volleyball team showed resilience in a pair of competitive matches on Tuesday, but came up just short against Walters State Community College and Campbellsville University JV at the Walters State Tri-Match.
In the opener, the Flying Eagles fell to host Walters State by a 3–1 margin (19–25, 22–25, 26–24, 15–25). Sophomore Destanie Ambers paced the SWCC attack with a team-high 15 kills while adding 20 digs for a double-double. Sophomore Patricia Bigge also reached double figures with 14 kills, and freshman Brooklyn Langston contributed 6 kills and a service ace. Sophomore setter Lucy Reid directed the offense with 39 assists to go along with 9 digs. Defensively, sophomore libero Evie Buffington anchored the back row with a match-best 33 digs, while sophomore Jaycie Stanley added 6 kills at the net.
In the second contest of the day, SWCC took Campbellsville University JV to four sets before falling 3–1 (22–25, 19–25, 25–19, 23–25). Ambers again led the way with 17 kills, and Langston turned in one of her best outings of the season with 13 kills while hitting an efficient .385. Bigge added 9 kills on a .381 hitting percentage, while Reid continued her steady playmaking with 37 assists and 7 digs. Buffington recorded another stellar performance in the back row with 30 digs, while sophomore Anna McKinney added 13 digs and a service ace.
SWCC will look to build on these performances as they continue play on Saturday when the travel to Sandhills CC for a Tri-Match.. First serve is set for 1:00 PM against USC Sumter and First serve against Sandhills CC will be at 3:00 PM.
