Flying Eagles Sweep Wake Tech to Advance to Region 10 Quarterfinals

Cedar Bluff, Va. — Southwest Virginia Community College volleyball opened postseason play on a high note, sweeping Wake Technical Community College 3–0 (25–17, 25–19, 25–23) on Tuesday evening at the King Community Center.
Sophomore standout Destanie Ambers led the way with a match-high 14 kills on a .323 hitting percentage, adding three service aces and nine digs. The two-time All-Region selection continued to pace the Flying Eagles’ attack in key moments throughout the match.
Freshman Natalie Haynes was highly efficient at the net, recording 10 kills on a .571 clip, while sophomore Patricia Bigge added seven kills and a block assist. Setter Lucy Reid directed the offense with 35 assists, helping SWCC hit a collective .290 as a team.
Defensively, Evie Buffington anchored the back row with 17 digs and two service aces, while Jaycie Stanley contributed five kills and a block assist off the bench. The Flying Eagles also totaled 11 service aces and limited Wake Tech to a .205 hitting percentage.
With the victory, Southwest Virginia (14–18) advances to the NJCAA Region 10 Quarterfinals, where they will face #2 Fayetteville Tech on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
