Flying Eagles Battle Through Three-Match Weekend; Ambers Hits Milestone

Cedar Bluff, Va. – The Southwest Virginia Community College volleyball team faced a challenging home weekend, dropping three Region 10 matchups to Cleveland Community College, Cape Fear Community College, and Fayetteville Technical Community College.
Cleveland CC 3, SWCC 1
The Flying Eagles opened the weekend Friday night with a competitive four-set battle against Cleveland CC (25–17, 27–29, 25–15, 25–20).
Sophomore Destanie Ambers reached a career milestone, becoming the first Flying Eagle to record 500 career kills. She tallied 11 kills and 20 digs in the match, while freshman Natalie Haynes added seven kills and Brooklyn Langston chipped in eight kills with three blocks. Patricia Bigge hit .200 with eight kills, and setter Lucy Reid finished with 36 assists. Libero Evie Buffington led all players with 29 digs.
Cape Fear CC 3, SWCC 0
In Saturday morning’s contest, Southwest Virginia fell in straight sets to Cape Fear (25–18, 25–16, 25–16).
Bigge had a strong performance with nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage, while Ambers added seven kills, 16 digs, and an ace. Langston posted five kills, and Reid dished out 17 assists with eight digs. Buffington once again anchored the back row with 11 digs.
Fayetteville Tech CC 3, SWCC 0
Closing out the weekend, the Flying Eagles battled Fayetteville Tech in a tight three-set match (25–23, 25–21, 25–19).
Ambers led the offense with 11 kills, while Bigge turned in an efficient outing with eight kills on a .889 hitting percentage. Madison Inderrieden added seven kills and a team-high five blocks. Reid set the tempo with 29 assists and 16 digs, and Buffington chipped in 13 digs defensively.
Looking Ahead
The Flying Eagles (8–12, 2–4 Region 10) look to bounce back on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when they host Alice Lloyd College. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
