Harriman, TN – Recap vs. Roane State
The Southwest Virginia Community College Flying Eagles opened their 2025 season on Friday morning with a 3–0 loss to host Roane State Community College (18–25, 17–25, 19–25) in the E2 Sports Raider Classic.
Sophomore Destanie Ambers led SWCC with 8 kills and 17 digs, while freshman Natalie Haynes added 7 kills. Patricia Bigge and Jaycie Stanley chipped in 4 and 5 kills respectively. Setter Lucy Reid recorded 17 assists, 9 digs, and 2 aces.
Defensively, SWCC tallied 60 digs, with Ambers collecting 17 and Anna McKinney adding 8. At the net, Bigge posted 4 block assists and Stanley added 3.
Recap vs. USC Lancaster
The Flying Eagles battled through three competitive sets on Friday evening but fell 3–0 to USC Lancaster (22–25, 24–26, 21–25).
Destanie Ambers paced the attack with a match-high 11 kills on .310 hitting, finishing with 11.5 points. Patricia Bigge was efficient with 5 kills on 9 swings (.444), while Jaycie Stanley also tallied 5 kills. Lucy Reid distributed 25 assists, added 4 digs, and an ace.
On defense, Evelyn Buffington led with 12 digs and Madison Inderrieden chipped in 13. Brooklyn Langston contributed 4 kills and a block assist, while also serving an ace.
Recap vs. Southern Union State
Southwest Virginia earned its first win of the season Saturday morning, defeating Southern Union State CC 3–1 (25–17, 21–25, 25–18, 25–14).
The Flying Eagles turned in their best offensive performance of the season, hitting .226 as a team. Destanie Ambers led the way with 13 kills, 14 digs, and 4 aces for 18 points. Patricia Bigge was dominant at the net with 12 kills on .455 hitting and 4 blocks (14.5 points). Brooklyn Langston added 9 kills, while Jaycie Stanley posted 7.
Lucy Reid guided the offense with 33 assists, 5 digs, and 2 aces. Evelyn Buffington anchored the back row with 23 digs and 5 aces, while Madison Inderrieden provided 16 digs.
As a team, SWCC finished with 44 kills, 14 aces, and 10 blocks, responding after dropping the second set by closing out the match convincingly.
Recap vs. Cleveland CC
The Flying Eagles wrapped up tournament play Saturday afternoon with a 3–1 loss to Cleveland CC (25–23, 22–25, 20–25, 14–25).
Destanie Ambers once again led the team with 11 kills, 17 digs, and 2 aces (15.5 points). Brooklyn Langston added 10 kills, 4 block assists, and an ace, while Patricia Bigge chipped in 9 kills. Lucy Reid dished out 36 assists and tallied 10 digs, while Evelyn Buffington anchored the back line with 23 digs.
SWCC totaled 40 kills, 39 assists, and 76 digs in the match, showing resilience despite the setback.
The Flying Eagles move to 1–3 on the season and now turn their attention to their home opener on Thursday, August 28, against Caldwell Community College. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Cedar Bluff.
