ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — Southwest Virginia Community College freshman Zetta Smith etched her name into program history this week at the Milligan Invitational, firing a first-round 86 that now stands as the lowest single-round score in SWCC Women’s Golf history.
Smith followed her record-setting opening round with a 90 on day two to post a 176 total, finishing tied for 22nd overall in a highly competitive field stacked with four-year programs.
Her opening round demonstrated resilience and poise. After going just five over on the front nine, a difficult 10th hole slowed her momentum, but she quickly bounced back with three pars in her next five holes and capped the round with a birdie at No. 16.
Round two began steadily with a par at the first, though early miscues on the second and fourth holes tested her rhythm. She regained her composure, playing the next five holes just three over, and highlighted her back nine with a birdie on the par-5 13th before closing with two pars over her final three holes.
Head Coach Bryan Greenway praised Smith’s performance:
“Zetta had the opportunity to compete at Johnson City Country Club and responded with a women’s program low of 86 in round one—even with a 9 on one hole. She finished tied for 22nd overall, and despite a tougher setup on Tuesday, posted a 90 and actually moved up on the leaderboard. Considering she was competing against rosters from four-year programs, I’m very pleased with her performance.”
