Flying Eagles Grind Out 57–50 Home Win Over Brunswick

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Southwest Virginia protected its home floor on Saturday afternoon, using a strong middle stretch and balanced scoring to defeat Brunswick Community College 57–50 at the King Community Center. The win moves the Flying Eagles to 4–3 overall and 3–1 in Region 10 play.
After trailing 11–10 after the first quarter, SWCC controlled the second and third periods, outscoring Brunswick 33–24 to build a lead they wouldn’t give back. The Flying Eagles executed well in key stretches, defended with discipline, and converted timely free throws to maintain the advantage.
Abby Berry led SWCC with 13 points and six rebounds, knocking down all five of her free-throw attempts. Emma Owens and Grace Harvey added 11 points each, with Harvey grabbing six boards.
Freshman forward Kara Kelley turned in one of her most complete performances of the season, finishing with seven points, 13 rebounds, and a game-high 10 assists. Kayllyn Vannoy chipped in nine points and three steals, helping SWCC disrupt Brunswick’s rhythm throughout the afternoon.
Southwest Virginia sealed the game at the line and held Brunswick in check defensively down the stretch to secure the Region 10 victory.
