Flying Eagles Fall to Louisburg College, 77–61

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Southwest Virginia Community College showed resilience throughout the afternoon but came up short in a 77–61 setback to Louisburg College on Saturday at home.
Louisburg built an early advantage behind a strong opening quarter, while the Flying Eagles continued to compete and settled in as the game progressed. Southwest Virginia matched the Hurricanes in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing 40–29.
The Flying Eagles came out of the locker room with renewed energy, delivering their best stretch of the game in the third quarter. Southwest Virginia outscored Louisburg 24–22 during the period, cutting into the deficit and keeping the contest within reach heading into the final frame. Louisburg responded in the fourth quarter, however, to seal the road victory.
Kara Kelley led the Flying Eagles with a game-high 20 points and posted a double-double with 13 rebounds, anchoring the effort on both ends of the floor. Abby Berry and Kayllyn Vannoy each added 11 points, while Grace Harvey contributed eight points and seven rebounds. Destiny Word provided solid minutes off the bench, finishing with six points and six rebounds.
Southwest Virginia controlled the glass with 40 total rebounds and consistently attacked the basket, getting to the free-throw line throughout the afternoon. Despite the effort, Louisburg’s shooting efficiency proved to be the difference.
The Flying Eagles will look to carry their second-half momentum forward as they prepare for their next home contest.
