Flying Eagles Return from Break with 86–80 Win Over Wake Tech

CEDAR BLUFF, VA.-Southwest Virginia Community College returned to action for the first time since December 20 and picked up an 86–80 home victory over Wake Technical Community College on Sunday at the King Community Center.
The Flying Eagles came out sharp following the layoff, jumping out to a 21–13 lead after the opening quarter and carrying a 41–35 advantage into halftime. SWCC created separation in the third quarter, outscoring Wake Tech 28–18 to build a comfortable cushion heading into the final period.
Wake Technical made a late push in the fourth, but Southwest Virginia answered with timely baskets and key defensive stops down the stretch to hold on for the six-point win.
Emma Owens led all scorers with 21 points, while Kara Kelley added 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals in a strong all-around performance. Grace Harvey chipped in 19 points and six rebounds, and Kayllyn Vannoy finished with 12 points and a team-high eight assists. Abby Berry rounded out the balanced scoring effort with 11 points.
As a team, the Flying Eagles shot 50.9 percent from the field and connected on 10 three-pointers, while forcing 17 turnovers on the defensive end.
Anna Dabek paced Wake Tech with 20 points and Iveonna Ward with 17. Destiny Mason added 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench for the visitors.
