Flying Eagles Compete but Come Up Short Monday Night

Cedar Bluff, Va.- The Southwest Virginia Community College women’s basketball team dropped a 65–51 decision to Milligan University JV on Monday evening at home.
Milligan used a strong opening quarter to build early momentum, taking a nine-point lead after the first ten minutes of play. The Flying Eagles responded in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 17–11 to cut into the deficit heading into halftime. Milligan regained control in the third quarter and maintained its advantage through the final period to secure the win.
Abby Berry led Southwest Virginia with 15 points, connecting on six field goals and two three-pointers while playing all 40 minutes. Emma Owens added 12 points, and Kara Kelley chipped in 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Grace Harvey provided a strong presence inside, finishing with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. As a team, the Flying Eagles recorded 29 rebounds and shot 31.3 percent from the field in the contest.
Southwest Virginia continued to battle throughout the night, cutting into the margin multiple times and competing on both ends until the final horn.
