Flying Eagles Close Strong to Earn Road Win at Catawba Valley

HICKORY, N.C. — The Southwest Virginia Community College women’s basketball team finished the night with a dominant fourth quarter on Wednesday, pulling away late for a 64–51 road victory over Catawba Valley Community College.
SWCC set the tone early, opening the game on an 18–7 first-quarter run and taking a 33–25 advantage into halftime. After Catawba Valley trimmed the margin in the third quarter, the Flying Eagles responded with their most complete stretch of the night, outscoring the Cardinals 22–10 in the final period to secure the win.
Kara Kelley led a balanced offensive effort with a double-double, posting 16 points and 10 rebounds. Grace Harvey followed with 14 points, six rebounds, and three blocks, while Abby Berry added 13 points and six rebounds. Kayllyn Vannoy chipped in 11 points, and Emma Owens rounded out the scoring with 10 points and three assists.
Defensively, the Flying Eagles held Catawba Valley to just over 31 percent shooting from the field and limited the Cardinals to 10 points in the fourth quarter to seal the conference road victory.
