CEDAR BLUFF, Va. – The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer team secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Concord University JV on Friday afternoon, thanks to a first-half goal from sophomore forward Jacque Watson.
Watson delivered the decisive moment in the 16th minute, breaking through the defense and finishing unassisted to give the Flying Eagles the lead. Despite multiple opportunities on both ends, neither side found the back of the net the rest of the way.
Southwest Virginia generated consistent pressure throughout the contest, outshooting Concord 14–10 and placing nine attempts on frame. Watson led the attack with three shots on goal, while Oscar Seliger and Gustavo Gonzales kept the defense busy with four shots apiece.
Between the posts, Pedro Marcos Hernández was steady for SWCC, collecting two saves to record the clean sheet. The Flying Eagles also owned the advantage in set pieces, earning six corner kicks to Concord’s two.
The defensive unit—anchored by Adrian Berg, Jake Campbell, Carter Dillon, and Fedde Lindner—stood tall in the second half, fending off eight Concord shots to preserve the result.
The win moves Southwest Virginia to 5–4–1 (2–2–1 Region X) on the season. The Flying Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, September 30, when they host to face Emory & Henry's reserve team. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
