Southwest Virginia men’s soccer showed resilience on Tuesday afternoon, storming back from a three-goal deficit to earn a 3–3 draw with USC Union at home.
The visitors jumped ahead quickly, with Valerio Cuscina putting Union on the board in the 12th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Steve Ouattara struck twice in back-to-back minutes (24th and 25th) to give the Bantams a commanding 3–0 advantage.
The Flying Eagles refused to fold. Sophomore forward Oscar Seliger sparked the comeback in the 28th minute, heading home a ball served in by Freshman Oliver Tate off a corner kick. Just before halftime, Euan Whitty pounced on a rebound in front of goal to cut the margin to 3–2.
Southwest Virginia continued to press in the second half, and the persistence paid off in the 88th minute. After a set-piece delivery, Whitty redirected the ball into the box, where Seliger’s touch found Sergio Salas, who finished from close range to level the score at 3–3.
Goalkeeper Pedro Marcos Hernández recorded three saves to keep the Flying Eagles within striking distance.
