The 2025 season could not have started any better for the Flying Eagles Men's Soccer team. On Sunday afternoon in Denmark, South Carolina, SWCC put on a scoring showcase, cruising to an 8-0 victory over Denmark Technical College.
It didn't take long for the offense to click. Sophomore striker Euan Whitty found the back of the net just four minutes into the match, then doubled the lead minutes later. From there, the Flying Eagles never looked back.
Freshman Jacque Watson introduced himself in a big way, recording a hat trick in his first collegiate match — the first debut hat trick in program history. Watson's goals came from a mix of sharp passes and strong finishes, proving he'll be a dangerous weapon all season.
In the midfield, Salvador Forte Vaz de Noronha controlled the tempo, scoring once on a penalty kick and setting up two more goals. Oscar Seliger chipped in with a pair of assists, while Gustavo Gonzales and Shelton Hunguana each celebrated their first career goals in a Flying Eagles uniform.
The dominance showed in the numbers: SWCC outshot Denmark Tech 30-2, earned eight corner kicks, and didn't commit a single foul. Goalkeepers Pedro Marcos Hernández and Cian Thomas combined for the clean sheet as the defense stayed organized throughout the full 90 minutes.
The win marks a new program record for goals in a single game and sets the tone for an exciting season ahead. The Flying Eagles return to action Wednesday, August 27, for their home opener against Patrick & Henry CC. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
