Flying Eagles Season Concludes in Region 10 Semifinals

Sumter, S.C. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer team saw its historic postseason run come to an end Friday afternoon, falling 4–0 to top-seeded USC Union in the Region 10 semifinals at USC Sumter.
USC Union capitalized early, taking a 1–0 lead in the 15th minute when Steve Ouattara finished off a setup from Pedro Rocha. The Bantams doubled their advantage at the half-hour mark on a goal from Valerio Cuscina, assisted by Joshua Macdonald.
Cuscina struck again in the 56th minute to make it 3–0, before assisting on a late tally by Julian Fodisch in the 78th minute to seal the result.
Despite the scoreline, Southwest Virginia goalkeeper Pedro Marcos Hernández turned in a strong performance, recording 12 saves while facing 16 shots on goal. The Flying Eagles battled throughout, showing the same grit and unity that defined their record-setting campaign.
The loss concludes a historic 2025 season for Southwest Virginia — one highlighted by the program’s first-ever playoff victory and significant milestones across the roster. The Flying Eagles finish as the Region 10 No. 4 seed, marking another step forward in the continued rise of SWCC men’s soccer.
