MONTREAT, N.C. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer team continued its impressive fall form Monday evening, earning a convincing 3–0 road victory over the Montreat College Reserves. The win extends the Flying Eagles’ unbeaten streak to seven matches and marks their fourth consecutive clean sheet.
The Flying Eagles struck early and often, netting a pair of goals within the opening 20 minutes to seize control. Sophomore midfielder LC Pannell opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing off a pass from Euan Whitty to make it 1–0. Just three minutes later, Whitty picked up his second assist of the match, setting up Jacque Watson for a composed finish to double the lead.
Watson added an insurance goal in the 70th minute — his second of the evening — slotting home unassisted to secure the 3–0 advantage.
Defensively, the Flying Eagles were stout throughout the match, limiting Montreat to just two shots on goal. The goalkeeping trio of Pedro Marcos Hernández, Cian Thomas, and Alejandro Fuentes-Ramos combined for the clean sheet, with Fuentes-Ramos earning the win after playing the full first half.
Southwest Virginia returns to action later this week as they look to carry the momentum into their next Region 10 matchup on Friday October 11, when they host USC Salkehatchie. Kick off is set for 1:00 PM.
