Experienced Golf Professional David Tayloe Takes Over SWCC Men’s and Women’s Golf

Cedar Bluff, VA - Southwest Virginia Community College Interim Athletic Director Antwan VanBuren has announced the hiring of David Tayloe as the new Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach. Tayloe brings more than two decades of experience in the golf industry, along with a strong commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the course.
Tayloe’s career in golf spans more than 24 years. In 1986, he was elected a Class “A” member of the Professional Golfers’ Association, beginning a career marked by leadership and service to the game. He spent over a decade as Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon, Virginia, while also serving as Chapter Director for the Tri-Cities PGA in the Tennessee Section. During that time, he earned multiple service awards recognizing his dedication to golfers and the sport.
No stranger to Southwest, Tayloe has served as the Flying Eagles’ assistant golf coach for the past year and a half, working alongside Coach Bryan Greenway to help build a strong and supportive program. He most recently served as Head Coach at Emory & Henry University, where he previously helped revive the men’s golf program as a student-athlete and earned All-ODAC honors.
Tayloe is known for a coaching philosophy centered on teaching, mentorship, and personal growth. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, he has worked one-on-one with students in Washington County Public Schools, further demonstrating his commitment to education and player development.
A graduate of Emory & Henry College, Tayloe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management. He and his wife, Elizabeth, an Emory & Henry alumna, reside in Abingdon with their two sons, Nate and Ryan.
