WINTERVILLE, N.C. — Southwest Virginia Community College couldn’t overcome a fast start from Pitt Community College on Saturday, dropping an 85–69 decision at the Coburn Center.
Pitt came out hot, shooting over 50 percent from the field and putting up 49 first-half points to build a 14-point halftime lead. Southwest Virginia battled throughout the second half but wasn’t able to trim the margin enough to threaten late.
Freshman Brice Wallace led the Flying Eagles with 16 points and four rebounds. Deonta Mozell added 14 points, all from the perimeter, and David Frazier finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Auri Jacobs chipped in seven points and four boards, while Emonte Lee pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Off the bench, Luke Michael provided strong minutes with seven points and six rebounds.
SWCC went 16-for-20 at the free-throw line and grabbed 34 rebounds, but Pitt’s 53.8 percent shooting and balanced scoring proved too much to overcome, with five Bulldogs reaching double figures.
