SHELBY, N.C. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s basketball team closed out its pre-holiday schedule Saturday afternoon with an 86–69 setback at Cleveland Community College.
Cleveland CC jumped out to an early advantage, taking a 47–31 lead into halftime and maintaining control throughout the second half. The Flying Eagles continued to compete, but were unable to overcome the home team’s efficiency, as Cleveland shot 54.0 percent from the floor for the game.
David Frazier led SWCC with 15 points, finishing a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line while adding three rebounds and two steals. Jack Ford followed with 14 points and a team-high five assists, and Peyton Ivery provided a strong lift off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including three made three-pointers.
Auri Jacobs contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven assists, while Brice Wallace added six rebounds and steady interior play. The Flying Eagles totaled 17 assists on 24 made field goals and shot 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Cleveland CC was led by Kelan Flowers’ game-high 27 points, with Jamari Smith adding 17 points and eight rebounds. The home team also held a 43–22 edge on the boards, creating extra scoring chances throughout the contest.

Southwest Virginia returns to action on Saturday, January 3, when the Flying Eagles travel to Johnston Community College for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff. SWCC will look to replicate its success from the first meeting, a 104–85 home victory earlier this season.
