Cedar Bluff, Va. — Southwest Virginia Community College battled through 45 minutes of basketball Tuesday night, pulling away in overtime for a 107–98 win over Patrick & Henry Community College at the King Community Center.
After trailing 52–45 at the half, the Flying Eagles responded with a strong second half to force overtime, then outscored the Patriots 17–8 in the extra period to secure the victory.
Freshman Deonta Mozell led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, attacking the rim and converting at the free throw line while also dishing out six assists. Luke Michael turned in a career night, posting career highs with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double. Michael was efficient on both ends of the floor, finishing 7-for-12 from the field and controlling the paint throughout the contest.
Auri Jacobs added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Brice Wallace contributed 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Off the bench, Mike Corley Jr. provided a key spark with 15 points, including timely free throws that helped seal the win in overtime.
Southwest Virginia held a slight edge on the glass and capitalized at the foul line, converting 36 free throws as the game wore on and the Flying Eagles pulled away in the extra session.
