Men's Basketball drops season opener
Your SWCC Men’s Basketball team dropped their opening game in the 2024-2025 season against Central Carolina CC 92-84. Coach Mullins’ group showed a ton of potential on the offensive end of the court.
The Flying Eagles were led by sophomore Corean Nelson who paced the team with 25 points on 9-16 shooting, including 3 of 8 from behind the three-point line. Nelson also added 5 assists. Sophomore Kahil Peoples proved to be a stat stuffer, contributing 18 points on 7-12 shooting, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Braydon Watson-Jones also proved to be a key piece for the team putting up 21 points on 8-11 shooting, including 3-5 from the behind the arc. Watson-Jones also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Flying Eagles outshot Central Carolina from the field 49% to 44% with both teams making seven three pointers on the day. However, Central Carolina dominated from the free throw line going 21 of 27, whereas the Flying Eagles went 10-13. Central Carolina also won the turnover battle 11 to 19 and the battle on the glass, out rebounding SWCC 39-36.
