Flying Eagles’ Season Ends in Region 10 Tournament Loss to Louisburg, 110-91

Louisburg, NC – The Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) Flying Eagles saw their season come to an end Monday night in the first round of the Region 10 Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament, falling to Louisburg College, 110-91.
Despite battling to extend their season, SWCC struggled with cold shooting and foul trouble, which allowed the Hurricanes to control the game and advance.
Hours after being named to the All-Region 10 Third Team, sophomore Corean Nelson showcased why he led the region in scoring. The Sumter, SC, native poured in a game-high 34 points in his final appearance for the Flying Eagles, making an impressive 20-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Adrian Mayes, a freshman and fellow Third Team honoree, delivered a dominant performance with 28 points and 14 rebounds, securing his 13th double-double of the season. However, the Durham, NC, product fouled out with six minutes remaining, with SWCC trailing by just nine points—a critical moment that shifted momentum firmly in Louisburg’s favor.
Sophomore Khalil Peoples wrapped up his SWCC career with a strong all-around effort, recording 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.
Defensive struggles plagued the Flying Eagles all night, as Louisburg shot nearly 51% from the field, including just under 40% from beyond the arc. SWCC, in contrast, managed only 38% shooting. The Hurricanes also dominated the glass, outrebounding SWCC 46-36, further limiting the Flying Eagles’ opportunities.
First-year Head Coach James “JJ” Thatcher now turns his attention to the future, aiming to develop and strengthen the roster for a deeper postseason push in the 2025-26 campaign.
