Cedar Bluff, Va. – The Flying Eagles (2-5, 1-4) returned to action for the first time since November 18th, facing the undefeated and Region 10 Division 2 leaders, Davidson-Davie Community College (10-0, 5-0). Despite a strong defensive effort, SWCC fell to the Storm, 106-73, at the King Community Center.
SWCC’s defense started strong, limiting Davidson-Davie to just 37% shooting and holding them to 12% from three-point range. However, the Flying Eagles struggled offensively, shooting only 41% from the field and connecting on just 2 of 9 three-pointers in the first half. At the break, the Flying Eagles trailed 42-38.
The second half saw Davidson-Davie intensify their defense, forcing 23 turnovers and converting them into 31 points. The Storm shot 69% from the field in the second half, including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc, while the Flying Eagles were unable to find their offensive rhythm.
Corean Nelson led the Flying Eagles with 25 points, going 7-19 from the field. He also made 10 of 13 free throws. Freshman Adrian Hunter was dominant in the post, contributing 24 points and 15 rebounds, including 8 offensive boards. Hunter was efficient, shooting 11-16 from the field. Sophomore Braydon Watson-Jones added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Davidson-Davie was led by Aden Taylor, who posted 20 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 blocks. Lamont Cousar added 18 points off the bench, shooting 7-14 from the field. The Storm also had a significant free-throw advantage, making 22 of 30 attempts compared to SWCC’s 12 of 19.
The Flying Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, December 11th, when they host Cleveland Community College at 7:00 PM at the King Community Center1
