Flying Eagles VS. UPIKE JV Game Recap!
The SWCC Flying Eagles Men's Basketball Team returned to action following an extended Thanksgiving break on Tuesday night, November 28th, for a non-conference game against the University of Pikeville Bears JV, improving their record to 4-2 on the season. The Eagles were able to overcome a slow start that saw UPIKE race out to a 7-0 lead to win the game 111-71. SWCC Head Coach David Mullins felt the early struggles may have been influenced by the extended break. "I was disappointed, but not overly surprised, by our early struggles," said Mullins. "We are still finding our chemistry as a group, and sometimes we force things. We needed to knock some rust off. We talk about being exceptional at making easy plays. Ball control and getting quality shots are so important in our league. When you force things offensively, bad things will snowball fast. I was glad to see us settle in and start making some stops on defense. That more than anything helped get our offense flowing.
Jaden Lyles (17), Caleb Fuller (15), Jordan McInnis (15), Corean Nelson (11) and BJ Fofana (10) all reached double figures for the Eagles. Fofana also pulled down 11 rebounds, notching the team's first double-double of the season. "BJ has been working tremendously hard in practice," said Mullins. "Rebounding is something we really have to focus on as a team. Having him step up and aggressively attack the glass is something we need. I was very happy with the energy BJ brought to the game.
The Flying Eagles return to action Sunday, December 3rd, at 1 PM for a Region X conference game against Fayetteville Tech.
