Flying Eagles vs. Upike Bears Recap
The Flying Eagles prevailed over a well-coached Pikeville JV team on the road Sunday afternoon, a day after dropping their conference opener at home to Louisburg College. "I am very proud of the resilience our team showed after Saturday's loss", said Mullins. "I felt the Louisburg game really showed us who we are and who we aren't. This newfound clarity, I feel, will allow us to make a concentrated effort to improve on the things that matter. Sometimes the reality is that there are no quick fixes; you just have to get better individually and as a team. Certainly, this applies to the coach more than anyone, and I look forward to getting in the gym and doing a better job of preparing our team to play"
Following the Pikeville game, Mullins had this to say: "We competed with the right energy today. I feel the guys were more connected as a team and played much more selfless basketball. The beauty of our game is that the best players make those around them better. We constantly challenge our guys to answer the question, "What have I done to make my teammates better?" It doesn't matter if it's making the extra pass, knocking down an open three, or cheering from the bench; you have to serve one another if you want to be great."
Jordan McInnis led the Eagles with 23 points against the UPike Bears. Jaden Lyles (14), Corean Nelson (11), and Alijah Pierre (11) were also in double figures. The Eagles will play their next game away against conference opponent Guilford Tech Community College on November 16th, before Thanksgiving break. They return to action with a home game against Pikeville JV on November 28th at 8 p.m.
