Mistakes Cost Men's Soccer vs. Richard Bland
RANDOLPH, Va. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer team dropped a 2–0 result on the road Sunday afternoon at Richard Bland College.
The Statesmen struck early, taking a 1–0 lead in the 14th minute when Reece Black converted on an SWCC mistake in the back. Richard Bland added to its advantage in the 70th minute as Victor Manuel converted from the penalty spot to make it 2–0.
Southwest Virginia worked to generate chances in the attack, with Salvador Forte Vaz de Noronha recording the team’s lone shot on goal. Goalkeepers Cian Thomas and Alejandro Fuentes-Ramos combined for seven saves on the afternoon. Thomas finished with two saves in 72 minutes of action, while Fuentes-Ramos added five saves in the closing 18 minutes.
Richard Bland held a 6–0 edge in corner kicks and finished with five shots on target. Both teams were shown one caution apiece in the match.
