Lancaster, S.C. – Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer fell 6-0 to USC Lancaster in Region 10 play on Thursday afternoon.
The Lancers controlled the opening half, putting five goals on the board before intermission. Juan Carlos opened the scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from Colson Varnadoe, before Vinicius Teixeria doubled the lead five minutes later with help from Kade Collier. Goals from Luca Schwartze (28’, assist from Ryan Kanyi Wahome), Noah Gerbasi (31’, assist from Wahome), and Tristan Bodnar (40’, assist from Joao Marinheiro) extended the margin to 5-0 at halftime.
In the second half, USC Lancaster added its final tally in the 54th minute when Varnadoe scored his second of the afternoon, assisted by Teixeria, to close out the 6-0 result.
Freshman goalkeeper Cian Thomas finished with seven saves in 73 minutes of action, while Alejandro Fuentes-Ramos added a stop in relief. Salvador Forte Vaz de Noronha led the Flying Eagles attack with five shots, including three on goal, while Euan Whitty, Sergio Salas, and Oscar Seliger each recorded attempts.
Southwest Virginia totaled three shots on target but was unable to break through against the Lancers’ back line and goalkeeping tandem of Miles Lett and Felix Bader, who combined for the clean sheet.
The Flying Eagles look to bounce back quickly as they will play Richard Bland College on Sunday. Kick-Off is set for 12:00 PM.
