Cedar Bluff, Va. — The Southwest Virginia Community College men’s soccer team came up short in its 2025 home opener, falling 2–0 to Patrick & Henry Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half where both defenses stood firm, the Patriots broke through in the 60th minute when Frederick Friche capitalized on a loose ball in the box and finished unassisted to give P&H CC a 1–0 advantage. Thirteen minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead as Nathan Musekiwa converted from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute to make it 2–0.
The Flying Eagles generated a handful of opportunities, highlighted by a shot on goal from Salvador Forte Vaz de Noronha, but could not find the finishing touch. Patrick & Henry goalkeeper Floyd Watts made one save to secure the shutout.
SWCC keeper Cian Thomas faced heavy pressure throughout the match, recording five saves while keeping his side in contention. The contest also featured a flurry of cards, with both teams picking up multiple cautions and Patrick & Henry seeing a pair of red cards issued late in the match.
With the loss, the Flying Eagles move to 1–1 on the young season. They will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host USC Sumter in a Region 10 matchup. Kick off is set for 11 am.
