Men's Soccer Season ends at USC Union
Your Flying Eagles Men's Soccer team's season came to a end as they dropped their Region X Quarter-Final match against USC Union 4-1. USC Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, while Southwest struggled to create any real quality chances. All that changed in the opening minutes of the second half, when freshman midfielder Harrison Saunders scored off a free kick taken by sophomore Fahad Hussain. Moments later, freshman Oscar Seliger hit the post which would of tied the match at two. However, just a few minutes later, USC Union went down and scored to make the game 3-1. The Bantams would go on to add a fourth goal three minutes later, making a comeback even more difficult. Sophomore goalkeeper Santiago Rea put in a strong performance with 10 saves.
When asked about the performance Coach Schetka had this to say: " I am proud of the effort and fight our team showed today, we faced a good opponent who has some really special players. Anytime you face a must win environment, the reaction to adversity is always crucial. Going down 2-0 at half, our guys showed the same fight and resilience they had in those moments all season to find a way to make it 2-1. I think we were a bit unfortunate to hit the post with a great chance to make it 2-2 and then they go down and make it 3-1. Even though our season has ended, I am looking forward to getting right to work with this group to continue to implement and build this program to what I believe we can be."
